As usual, I'm the lightest shade available, which in Laura Merciers case is Porcelain. I have both the oil free (shown on the left of swatch) and the regular. Pretty close in terms of shade, but the oil free is a little more pink with the regular pulling slightly warmer. The regular also has a little more coverage, but no major differences here.Whilst both have some problems - I kind of wish they would make a compromise between the both of them, but whatever ;) - I strongly prefer the oil free. I have repurchased the oil free maybe 3x already, whilst the regular is still only about half used.
The Regular is lot more suited to drier skin types. The Oil Free can sometimes highlight any dryness I have - usually around the nose and on the chin - but I still choose that over the greasy feeling of the regular.
Before/After:

I absolutely love the coverage this offers. It evens out my skin perfectly and diffuses the freckles and blemishes. I find this to have more coverage than most tinted moisturisers, but you could always mix in a little more moisturiser if it offers too much for you. As you can see it's a very dewy finish, which can be set with powder, however due to the creamy consistency of this I recommend a transparent, finely pilled setting powder rather than your everyday pressed compact type which can sometimes look a little cakey on top of this.
Staying power is pretty good. It's obviously no where near as long lasting as a foundation intended for all day wear, but it does last a good 8 hours before any touch ups are needed. Most of all I love how comfortable my skin feels when wearing this and how soft and nourished it is left upon removal.
I recommend this highly to anyone looking for a sheer-medium tinted moisturiser offering a natural yet perfected finish to the skin. If the Illuminating one were available in more than four shades I would definately give it a go, but I have a feeling even the palest would be too dark. Does anyone have any experiences with this one? Thanks!

ReplyDeleteJulie: Thankyou! It's definately worth trying! I love it xx
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your base reviews. Its covers all...bases? haha
ReplyDeleteOne day I will try this!
Tea: Thankyou hun!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds great and I can see how much it covers for being sheer but unfortunately this didn't work for me ugh. I'm not sure why but it made my face really greasy and I tried the oil free one :/
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I appreciated how thorough you were with all the details. I've never tried this but of course, I've heard of all the rave reviews it's gotten. The coverage looks really nice for a tinted moisturizer. I may have to give this a try very soon :)
ReplyDeleteI have a sample of LM hydrating tinted moisturizer but I think I much prefer the oil free one. next time I'll get a sample of this one!
ReplyDeleteExcellent and very thorough review!!!
ReplyDeleteI really love that you added swatches, I honestly didn't think that it would give such good coverage! Definitely a must-try for me!
eee i want this so much! it makes your skin all glowy! xx
ReplyDeletethanks for your review :)!
ReplyDeleteI tried the Illluminating one last year, and didn't like it. It didn't feel as nice on my skin, and instead of looking "illuminated" my face looked greasy ...
ReplyDeleteI don't have very good skin with blemishes and scars. When I do long haul flights like 16 hours of travel and such, I hate wearing foundation for so many hours in the dry confines of a flight so I end up washing my makeup off about two hours into the flight (when I'm comfortable enough to be au naturel ;)). When I land in an airport and want to get my game face on - real makeup would take more time so I usually use this (Laura Mercier's Oil Free TM). It's very good for evening out skin tone and making my scars look less pronounced. I've tried Bobbi Brown's TM but it's quite oily and seems to break me out. Already bought my 2nd tube now.
ReplyDeleteI have heard so much about this TM but have not looked at a before and after photo until now, wow what great coverage for a TM, plus the oil free would be ideal for me, absolutely love the looks of it and want it even more now ;)
